Winnipeg Stock Exchange

Winnipeg Stock Exchange was incorporated on the 18th of March in the year of 1903. At the time when Winnipeg Stock Exchange came into existence, the list of the names of the earliest members of the board of governors included, J. Reginald Lawson, H. Sutherland, J. McGavin, R. Rilie, T. Billett, W. Standford Evans, M. Aldous, H. Champion, E. Counsell and A. Nanton.

Even after Winnipeg Stock Exchange was incorporated formally, it was not at all organized to be worthy of being ready to run business till August of the year of 1908. With twenty four members, offices were inaugurated in the Grain Exchange Building and stocks were invited for trading on 1st February in the year of 1909. A few number of initial trading were among the shares of Canadian Pacific Railway Co., Great West Life Assurance Co., Winnipeg Street Railway, Canadian Life Insurance Co. and Northern Trust Co.

The majority of the members of Winnipeg Stock Exchange have come to represent the branch offices of reputed dealers or brokers, that happen to be registered with the Manitoba Securities Commission.



The purpose is to spread business in Manitoba through their Winnipeg branch offices.

Treading down for a long path of more than 104 years, Winnipeg Stock Exchange now lists securities of various types including preferred as well as common stocks, government and corporate debentures. Some of the securities are exclusively listed on Stock Exchange of Winnipeg. The other securities are inter listed with other exchanges. The Winnipeg Stock Exchange has come to develop a regional exchange where the new enterprises of Manitoba own their shares and offer a market. Therefore, Stock Exchange in Winnipeg is not only an active Stock Market but also one of the Major Stock Markets of the World, that lists companies not only from Canada, but also from all corners of the world.
